Southeast of Queenstown and east of Alexandra, the Otago Central Rail Trail is a 150km route along the old Otago Central railway line. The route leads from Middlemarch to Clyde while passing through 18 towns. The Otago Central Rail Trail is open to hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding.
Overall, Otago Rail Trail is the 30th most popular mountain bike trail of all 41 mountain biking rides in New Zealand. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Otago Rail Trail including Skippers Canyon Track, Moke Circuit, Coronet Peak Ski Area, Fernhill Loop, Ben Lomond Track and Seven Mile Recreation ReserveMoonlight Track.
