Southwest of Durban near the village of Umzinto, the Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve has a combination of singletracks and game viewwing roads to explore. A great starting point is the main reception center, which has trails and roads that loop back to the center.

There is a good 10km circuit starting from the office at the Kwamzukwa gate. It is a scenic singletrack that starts behind the reserve offices.

For a longer ride, there is a 20km circuit following the 4x4 Track to the scenic viewpoint over the Mzinto River. This is an out-and-back requiring you to turn around at the perimeter fence.

The Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve is located nine kilometres from the village of Umzinto and a short drive from the seaside resort and residential area of Park Rynie.

To reach the Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve, turn of the South Coast freeway at the Park Rynie/Umzinto flyover and take the Highflats/ Ixopo road. The reserve turn-off is 3 km past Umzimto, 12.5km from the freeway. The entrance gate is 6km on good dirt from the turn-off.

Gates open at 6am in summer and close at 6pm.

Overall, Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve is the 7th most popular mountain bike trail of all 8 mountain biking rides in South Africa.
