Southwest of Salzburg, the TransAlp route from Koenigsleiten, Austria, to Kasern, Italy, passes through a scenic section of the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern. The majority of the route heads up the scenic Krimmler Ache through a narrow valley with several huts along the way. Near the southern head of the valley, there are two options for routes heading over the mountain passes. Both of the routes over the passes are hike-a-bikes. While the usually suggested route is over Birnlucke Pass, the other route may be in better condition.
Overall, Koenigsleiten-Kasern is the 59th most popular mountain bike trail of all 65 mountain biking rides in Austria.
