South of Sedona, the challenging Hi Line Trail offers spectacular views over Cathedral Rock.
The best trailhead for this route is the northern Bell Rock Pathway parking area, just north of the Circle K in the town of Oak Creek on SR179. Ride back towards the Circle K and cross SR179 to the west side. Follow the sidewalk to the end and you see the start of a singletrack that becomes the Slim Shady Trail. Follow the Slim Shady Trail climbing to the north. After about a mile, you will intersect the eastern end of the Hi Line Trail. The most enjoyable direction on the Hi Line Trail is west to east. To do this, continue on the Slim Shady Trail to the Templeton Trail. Turn right riding northwest around Cathedral Rock and down to Oak Creek. At the Baldwin Trail, turn right heading up a creek bed for about 0.6 miles to the western end of the Hi Line Trail. Turn left on the Hi Line Trail heading east steeply up the saddle south of Cathedral Rock. Once at the summit of the saddle, you will have spectacular views of the redrock formations. The Hi Line Trail continues southeast back down to the intersection with the Slim Shady Trail.
Overall, Hi Line Trail is the 99th most popular mountain bike trail of all 103 mountain biking rides in Arizona. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Hi Line Trail including Apache Maid Trail, Soldiers Pass / Secret Trail, Bell Rock-Llama-Submarine, Templeton Trail / Easy-Breezy, Deadmans Pass Loop, Huckaby Thompson Loop, Dead Horse Ranch State Park, .
