Kuilau Ridge Trail Mountain Biking

Northwest of Lihue and west of Wailua on Kauai, the Kuilau Ridge Trail is a popular Kauai mountain biking trail. It is a 2.2 mile one-way route that starts off heading north as a 4WD road and narrows down to a singletrack as it winds up into the Makaleha Mountain range. The Kuilau Ridge Trail ends after a switchback desent at the intersection with the Moalepe Trail, which continues to the east for 2.2 miles to the Olohena Road trailhead. Most mountain bikers ride both trails from trailhead to trailhead and back for a 9 mile round trip. Both of these trails through dense valleys of ferns and bush are well signed and maintained. There may be some hikers and hunters on the routes, so keep an eye out.

To reach the mountain biking trailhead for the Kuilau Ridge Trail from Wailua, head west on Highway 580 through Wailua up to the Keahau Arboretum. Look for the small parking area for up to three cars located on the right. The trail starts from the parking area.
