Southeast of Zurich, the Davos Bahnen Tour is an epic endurance mountain bike ride linking 100km of trails with nine cable-cars and lifts. Only the fittest mountain bikers can complete this alpentour in one day. With over 10,000m of descent, it's best to start the day with fresh brake pads. And, with 100km, you'd better come with plenty of water and food packed to replenish only on the lifts to maximize daylight for riding. Luckily, if you're staying in Davos overnight, there are complimentary lift passes available. Keep in mind that the Davos trails can be crowded with mountain bikers on the weekends, so consider trying the Bahnen Tour on a weekday.
The Davos Bahnentour begins in Davos Dorf at the base of the Parsennbahn. Start by taking the Parsennbahn to the Weissfluhjoch top station. Ride the rolling trails west to Chorbschhorn and descend to Davos Glaris. Head up the Rinerhornbahn, and then descend to the east back down to Davos Dorf. Again, head up the Parsennbahn to the Weissfluhjoch top station, but this time ride southeast along the Meierhof-Wolfgang route through Wolfgangpass and down to Klosters. Now, you'll do three laps on the Gotschnabahn with a different routes on each. The third lap finishes in Klosters Dorf. Next, head up the Madrisabahn lift to the top station. The first lap heads back down road and trail to Klosters Dorf. Again, back up the Madrisabahn lift, and start riding west on trail and road descending to Saas im Prattigau. The finish is heading west along the river to the Kublis train station. Make sure to buy several cool drinks before getting on the train for the 25 minute ride back to Davos.
Overall, Bahnen Tour is the 33rd most popular mountain bike trail of all 34 mountain biking rides in Switzerland. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Bahnen Tour including Alps Epic Trail Davos, Fluelabach and Pischatour.
