Northeast of Banff, the Lake Minnewanka trail is a rough singletrack on exposed sidehill about the long narrow reservoir leading towards Devils Gap (30 km one-way). To reach the mountain biking trailhead from Banff, follow Banff Avenue east under the TransCanada Highway. Continue up a series of turns for several miles to the end of Lake Minnewanka Road and the trailhead parking area.

Overall, Lake Minnewanka is the 7th most popular mountain bike trail of all 23 mountain biking rides in Alberta. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Lake Minnewanka including Alexandra River, Moraine Lake, Spray River / Goat Creek, Pipestone, Ross Lake and Bryant Creek TrailCascade.
