West of Calgary near Canmore, this alpine area has rolling hills, sculpted peaks, sparkling lakes and bubbling streams, along with moose and mountain goats. The best time of year is mid-September through October. Some of the choice trails include: Stoney Trail (two-track along western shore of Barrier Lake), Praire View/Creek Trail (10 mile mountain bike singletrack loop near Barrier Lake), Baldy Mountain Trail, and Jumpingpound Ridge Trail (singletrack climb up Cox Hill east of Baldy Moutain). To reach Kananskies from Calgary, head west on TC1 towards Canmore. Turn left heading south following signs towards Kananskies Lodge.

Overall, Kananskies Country is the 21st most popular mountain bike trail of all 23 mountain biking rides in Alberta. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Kananskies Country including Alexandra River, Moraine Lake, Lake Minnewanka, Spray River / Goat Creek, Redearth Creek and Rundle RiversideBryant Creek Trail.
