Near St. Johns, the Old Petty Harbor Road is an easy 13km trek. This is a dirt road that runns from Kilbmountain bike ride(St. Johns) to the community of Petty Harbour on the east coast of the Avalon Peninsula. This is an out and back mountain bike ride or you can choose one of two alternate return pavement routes. Most of this dirt road is wide and rolling with many smaller side trails which lead to several small ponds and look out points. At about the half way point there is a boggy section followd by several downhill sections. The dirt road becomes more rugged allong here. The end of the dirt road is at a graveyard and from here there is a paved road that runs down into Petty Harbour. Petty Harbor is a scenic fishing community and if you choose to take one of the pavement return routes turning right on the main road will take you back to St. Johns through the Goulds and turning left will take you back through Maddox Cove and Shea Heights.
To reach the trailhead, Turn off of Bay Bulls Road onto Old Petty Harbour Road. The trailhead is at the Gate at the end of Old Petty Harbor Road.
