South of Frankfurt, the Heidelberg area has two main trail systems about Weiber Stein to the north and Konigstuhl to the south. Both systems have plenty of climbing with 400+ m. vertical. Keep in mind that the state of Baden-Wurttemberg has restrictions against mountain mountain biking on trails less than 2 m. wide.

Overall, Heidelberg is the 5th most popular mountain bike trail of all 17 mountain biking rides in Germany. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Heidelberg including Black Forest, Rodalben and Pfalzerwald MTB Park.
