Located 150 miles northwest of Mexico City, San Miguel de Allende is the hottest mountain biking destination in Mexico. Situated on the Bajio Plateau at 5,000, this riparian region is a cross-country riders heaven with over 800 miles of narrow trails winding past cacti and cholla under expansive skies. The charming, cobblestoned town of San Miguel is a thriving art community of expatriated Americans. Check out the San Luis Rey - Jardin Botanico Loop (7.5 miles), the Palo Colorado - Atotonilco Loop (23.5 miles) or the Cieneguitas Road (11 mile out & back) which turns at the Las Grutas de Guadalupe hot springs.
Note: Prior to 1997, the topographic maps developed by the federal government used the NAD27 CONUS datum. Starting in 1998, the government transitioned to the ITRF92 datum (some maps show both datum), which is pretty much identical to the WGS84 datum.
Overall, San Miguel de Allende is the 3rd most popular mountain bike trail of all 24 mountain biking rides in Mexico.
