East of Birmingham and south of Anniston, the 2,800 acre Cheaha State Park has a 4 loop trail system cut around Mt. Cheana, which is the highest point in the state. The Cheaha State Park is completely within the Talladega National Forest. The popular Pinhoti Trail passes along the eastern boundary of the state park.
To reach mountain biking at the state park from US20, use exit 191. Head south on US431 for 3.6 miles to SR49. Turn right heading southwest on SR49 for 9 miles to SR281. Turn right heading west on SR281 for 3 miles into the park.
Overall, Cheana Express Mountain Bike Trail is the 2nd most popular mountain bike trail of all 10 mountain biking rides in Alabama.
