Northeast of Sacramento and El Dorado Hills in the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, the 12 mile Salmon Falls Traill (aka Darrington Trail) begins on the bank of the South Fork of the American River and winds through the north side of the river. Great views of the river and great single track trails. Intermediate to advanced in difficulty. It has such great variety of climbs, and descents, sharp turns and winding single track trails.

To reach the mountain biking trailhead from Sacremento, head east on US 50 to El Dorado Hills Exit. Proceed north on Eldorado Hills Blvd. for 4 miles. Past the intersection with Green Valley Road, the name changes to Salmon Falls Road. Continue on Salmon Falls Road for 5.5 miles. Proceed across Salmon Falls Bridge and the trailhead parking is on the left. The trailhead is at the left end of the upper parking lot.

Overall, Salmon Falls Trail is the 12th most popular mountain bike trail of all 132 mountain biking rides in California. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Salmon Falls Trail including Foothills Divide Trail and Empire Mine State Park.
