If this heart pounding climb isn t enough, on the way back try the side trail up South Peak, or check out the two other fire roads in the Robert Louis Stevenson State Park.
To reach the mountain biking trailhead from Calistoga, head northeast on SR29 from 7.6 miles to the small Robert Louis Stevenson State Park parking area.
Continue west up SR29 for 300 feet to reach the beginning of the fire road and the trail on the left. Head up the fireroad for 5.8 miles to the summit. If this heart pounding climb isnt enough, on the way back try the side trail up South Peak.
Overall, Mount St. Helena Trail is the 45th most popular mountain bike trail of all 138 mountain biking rides in California. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Mount St. Helena Trail including Oat Hill Mine Trail, Las Posades / Pacific Union College Trails, Skyline Park, Annadel State Park and Boggs Mountain State Forest.
