To reach the Sierra Madre Ridge Road trailhead from Santa Maria, head north on US101 for about 4 miles. Turn right heading east on SR166 for about 35 miles. Look for the trailhead on the right side (south side) of SR166. It is roughly 20 miles northwest of New Cuyama.
Overall, Sierra Madre Ridge Road is the 18th most popular mountain bike trail of all 138 mountain biking rides in California. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Sierra Madre Ridge Road including Gibraltar / Redrock Loop, Little Pine Mountain / Happy Hollow, Romero Canyon Trail, Gaviota State Park, Ortega Trail and Tunnel Trail.
