Northwest of Durango, a popular 20 mile singletrack loop can be formed using a portion of the Colorado Trail, the Hoffheins Trail and the Dry Fork Trail. The route starts in dry scrub pine forest and follows Junction Creek up to steep switchbacks. Atop the switchbacks, the route passes through some aspen forest. About 1/8 mile past Gudys rest, take a left on the Hoffheins Connection Trail. Its all downhill to Lightner Creek Road. Follow the road to Highway 160 and take a left back into Durango.
To reach mountain biking at the trailhead located northwest of Durango, head north on Main Avenue, which becomes US550, to West 25th Street. Turn left heading west on 25th Street, which becomes Junction Street. Continue on Junction Street until it becomes dirt. There is a large signed parking area on the left side of the road.
Overall, Colorado Trail - Hoffheins is the 32nd most popular mountain bike trail of all 175 mountain biking rides in Colorado.
