Air Line Trail For Mountain Biking

The MOST popular mountain bike trail in Connecticut.

Northeast of East Hampton, the Air Line Trail is a 23 mile railroad grade open to mountain biking. This southern section runs from East Hampton northeast to Windham. There are numerous trailhead access points along the route.

In addition to this southern section, there is a lesser developed northern section. The northern section is a 27 mile route from Windham to Putnam. It is undeveloped railroad ballast that is mainly used by mountain bikers, horseback riders and nordic skiers in the winter. Note: the section from Pomfret to Putnam is pretty rough.

Overall, Air Line Trail is the 1st most popular mountain bike trail of all 16 mountain biking rides in Connecticut.
