Elk City State Park For Mountain Biking

Southeast of Wichita and northeast of Independence in Elk City State Park, the Eagle Rock Mountain Bike Trail is a 4.3 mile network divided into 3 sections. The river section is moderately difficul with some great dips, double back loops, log jumps, and tight squeezes through the trees. This is followed by a demanding trek on the hillside with some steep downhills, gradual climbs, and ice age boulders. The third section winds through the tall native grass and small trees. This is a turn it loose section with lots of course changes and a really fast track.
To reach the trailhead from Independence near US75, follow CR3525 north. Turn west on CR4800 toward Elk City State Park.
Overall, Elk City State Park is the 4th most popular mountain bike trail of all 10 mountain biking rides in Kansas. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Elk City State Park including Horsethief Canyon, Flint Hills Death Ride, El Dorado State Park and Coronado Heights.
