Near Cass Lake in the Chippewa National Forest, a 68 mile stretch of the North Country Trail passes through the Chippewa National Forest and is open to mountain biking. The west end is 5 miles west of Walker and the east end is nine milea east of Remer. This mountain bike trail threads around numerous lakes, wetlands and hardwood forests. While the eastern portion is flat, the western section is rolling.

Overall, North Country Trail is the 5th most popular mountain bike trail of all 31 mountain biking rides in Minnesota. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby North Country Trail including Cut Foot Sioux Trail and Washburn Lake.
