Southwest of Ely in the Superior National Forest, the Bear Head Lake State Park has 17 miles of trails adjacent to the Superior National Forest. The routes roll through forested hills and boreal forests typical of the Boundary Waters Canoe Areas. Keep a sharp eye out for timber wolves and black bear. The mountain bike trailhead is located 20 miles southwest of Ely on CR128 off US 1.

Overall, Bear Head Lake Trails is the 7th most popular mountain bike trail of all 31 mountain biking rides in Minnesota.
