Snowbank Lake / Old Pines Trail For Mountain Biking

The 16th most popular mountain bike trail in Minnesota.

Located northeast of Ely in the Superior National Forest, this is a 46 mile route through northern boreal forests of maple, aspen, birch, balsam fir and towering pines. The Snowbank Trail is a 16 mile loop around Snowbank Lake and between Parent and Disappointment Lakes. Crusing along the ST, the north side of Snowbank Lake has high rock ridges with excellent overlooks. The Old Pines Trail is a cutoff extending another 11 miles. The highlights are large stands of virgin white pine over 300 years old and abundant wildlife including moose, black bear and timber wolves.

To reach the mountain biking trailhead from Ely, follow CR18 (Ferberg Trail Road) for 15 miles to the parking area.

Overall, Snowbank Lake / Old Pines Trail is the 16th most popular mountain bike trail of all 31 mountain biking rides in Minnesota.
