East of Grangeville and Elk City in the Bitterroot National Forest, the 101 mile Magruder Corridor that is open to mountain biking winds through the pristine undeveloped beauty between the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness and the Frank Church Wilderness areas. Combined, these two wilderness areas are the largest unroaded block of land in the continental US. The Magruder Road (FS 468) allows primative travel between the wilderness areas from Elk City, Idaho, to Darby, Montana, and crosses the Nez Perce National Forest into the Bitterroot National Forest. This one-lane road traversing the Bitterroot Mountains is rough, steep, winding and occasionally washed out without services for 117 miles. There are 10 primative campground along the route, though none have potable water. The road is busiest during the hunting season from mid-September to mid-November. Snow may begin in early October and persist into July. Plan to see more wildlife than anywhere else in the nation, including mountian lion, moose, black bear, elk and an occasional otter on the Selway River.

Overall, Magruder Corridor is the 22nd most popular mountain bike trail of all 32 mountain biking rides in Montana. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Magruder Corridor including Lake Como Loop and Lost Horse Road.
