Fort Stanton Trail System For Mountain Biking

The 5th most popular mountain bike trail in New Mexico.

Southeast of Lincoln near Ruidoso, the 24,000 acre Fort Stanton ACEC has 60 miles of developed mountain bike trails open to hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. In particular, the Fort Stanton Trail is a 21 mile route passing through the Roswell Resource Area.

Most of the trials start from the Horse Trails Parking Lot on SR220.

To reach the trailhead from Lincoln, head west on US380 for 7.7 miles. Turn south on SR220 for 1 mile to the parking area.

To reach the trailhead from Capitan, go east on US 380 for 4 miles. Turn right on SR 220 and go about 1 mile to parking on the left.

Overall, Fort Stanton Trail System is the 5th most popular mountain bike trail of all 53 mountain biking rides in New Mexico.
