Southeast of Syracuse and east of Fabius in Onondaga County, the 2,700 acre Highland Forest County Park has over 20 miles of trails open to hikers, mountain bikers, cross country skiers and horseback riders. This area is known as the Adirondacks of Central New York with rugged forest terrain. Mountain biking is allowed on the cross-country ski trails (marked in red on the trail map), as well as on interior forest roads and firelanes. Please do not mountain bike on pure hiking trails (blazed with yellow pine tree symbols on the trails) unless they follow cross country ski routes. Night riding is not allowed. The Park Manager request that riders sign in at the trail register station located at the Information Booth in the main parking lot.
To reach the park from Syracuse, follow US81 south to the Tully exit (Exit 14). Turn left heading through the town of Apulia. Look for Highland Forest County Park signs. The park is located 4 miles east of Fabius.
Overall, Highland Forest County Park is the 13th most popular mountain bike trail of all 48 mountain biking rides in New York. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Highland Forest County Park including Baker Forest Loop, Labrador Twin Loops, Brookfield Trail System, Green Lakes State Park and Vanderkamp Center.
