The Fires Creek Area is a large remote basin is outlined by a horseshoe-shaped rim of densely forested mountains rising over 4,000. Most of these mountain bike trails connect to the Rim Loop Trail (#72), which follows the ridge line.

Overall, Fires Creek Area is the 7th most popular mountain bike trail of all 24 mountain biking rides in North Carolina. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Fires Creek Area including Tsali Trails, Trace Ridge / Spencer Gap, Bent Creek - Hard Times Trailhead, Little Yellow Mountain Gap Trail, State Line Trail and Blue Valley TrailRound Bottom Road.
