The Fires Creek Area is a large remote basin is outlined by a horseshoe-shaped rim of densely forested mountains rising over 4,000. Most of these mountain bike trails connect to the Rim Loop Trail (#72), which follows the ridge line.

Overall, Fires Creek Area is the 6th most popular mountain bike trail of all 24 mountain biking rides in North Carolina.
