Near Medora, the Great Divide Trail is an infrequently used 9 mile trail. It begins from East River Road near Painted Badlands Ranch on the doublemountain bike track beyond gate #739B. Continue on track left along fence to gate #2. The trail is faint beyond this gate through thick grasses. Proceed to the right around the ridge to gate #3. Watch for white marker and turn left eventually heading down to the Ranchorama Road which leads back into Medora.
Overall, Great Divide Trail is the 5th most popular mountain bike trail of all 8 mountain biking rides in North Dakota. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby Great Divide Trail including Maah Daah Hey Trail and Sully Creek State Park.
