Near Wilkes Barre, the Pinchot Trail Systems in the 8,000 acre Lackawanna State Forest is a combination of gravel roads, double track, rocky single track and grassy mountain bike trails. The 23 mile orange-blazed trail on the Pocono Plateau offers scenic forest overlooks, hemlock shrouded creeks and bogs. Keep an eye out for bear, deer and an occasional rattlesnake.

To reach the mountain biking trailhead from the PA Turnpike (Northeast Extension), use Exit 35 (White Haven) and head east on SR940. In Blakeslee, turn left on SR115 toward Wilkes-Barre. Across the Lehigh River, continue 1.24 miles to SR2040. Turn right heading northeast into Thornhurst. Turn left on SR2016 and continue for 4 miles to the trailhead on the right.

Overall, Pinchot Trail System is the 7th most popular mountain bike trail of all 75 mountain biking rides in Pennsylvania.
