Northwest of Dallas and Decatur in the LBJ National Grasslands, the LBJ Multiuse Trail system has four loops totaling 35 miles on single and double tracks through the 22,000 acre LBJ National Grasslands. The trails are blazed by different colors: Blue Loop (14 miles), Yellow Loop (10 miles), White Loop (14 miles), and Orange Loop (11 miles). These soft dirt trails are maintained by a local equistrian organization. Keep an eye out for bobcats, deer and fox. The best trailhead is Tadra Point Campground (no water).
To reach the mountain biking trailhead from Decatur, head north on SR730 for 10 miles. At the cemetary, turn left heading southwest on CR2461 (Cottonwood Cemetary Road). At the fork, turn right on CR2560 for 3 miles. Then turn left on FS900 for 2 miles. The trailhead is on the right.
Overall, LBJ National Grasslands is the 3rd most popular mountain bike trail of all 59 mountain biking rides in Texas. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby LBJ National Grasslands including DORBA Trail, Dinosaur Valley State Park, Lake Mineral Wells State Park, Rowlett Creek Trail, Northshore Trail and Tyler TrailBonham State Park.
