West of Quilcene, the Quilcene Trail (#833) is known as one of the best mountain bike rides around. The entire 6.2 miles of trail passes through typical northwest forest along the Big Quilcene River. Grade is 10-15%. The trail/road loop can be made by traveling up the trail from the FS2700-080 to the FS2750 to the FS27 and back to the FS2700-080. FS27 is paved and affords wonderful views of the Olympic Mountains. The total trail/road loop is about 18 miles in length.
To reach the mountain biking trailhead from Quilcene, follow US101 south for one mile. At Penny Creek Road turn right. At FS27, turn and continue for 1.5 miles to the intersection with FS 2700-080 on the left. To reach the upper access of this trail follow FS 27 another 7 miles to FS7250. Follow FS2750 for 5 miles to the upper trailhead of Lower Big Quilcene Trail.
Overall, Lower Big Quilcene Trail is the 9th most popular mountain bike trail of all 59 mountain biking rides in Washington.
