Northwest of Santa Cruz, the north side of the UC Santa Cruz campus has a wide range of fire roads open to mountain biking that lead to a few mountain bike singletracks. The fire roads wind through mixed forest and the singletracks, such as the U-Con Trail or the Rincon Connector Trail, descent through redwood, oak and manzanita forest at the edge of the UC Santa Cruz campus.
In addition, the northwestern extent of the fire roads connect with the popular mountain bike trail system in Wilder Ranch State Park.
Overall, UCSC is the 43rd most popular mountain bike trail of all 132 mountain biking rides in California. Several of the better mountain bike trails are nearby UCSC including Wilder Ranch State Park and Big Basin Redwoods State Park.
