West of Prescott, the 400 acre Alto Pit Riding Area is a popular area to ride through ponderosa pine forest that is open to dirt biking. There is a 13-acre cross country area open to trail bikes, 8 miles of designated trails for trail bikes, and a beginners course for vehicles under 90cc.

The Alto Pit dirt bike trailhead is located 4 miles west of Prescott on Iron Springs Road. There should be signs for the trailhead and the parking area is on the right. There is a small user fee to use this area.

Overall, Alto Pit Riding Area is the 7th most popular dirt bike trail of all 44 dirt biking rides in Arizona. Several of the better dirt bike trails are nearby Alto Pit Riding Area including Crown King Riding Area, Mingus Mountain ORV Loop, Tonto Wash ORV Trail, Old Military Trail, Hayfield Draw - Bryant Park ORV Area and Sheridan Mountain / Smith Mesa.
