Near Waldron in the Ouachita National Forest, the 26 mile Fourche Mountain Trail (formerly Mill Creek Equestrian Trail ) offers breathtaking views of Fourche Mountain and Buck Knob. The yellow-blazed trail passes abandoned silver mines, beautiful streams and several views of the Ouachita Mountains. The trail has a combination of unsurfaced and road surfaces. The route is shared by hikers, mountain bikers, off-road motorcycle and horseback riders.
Fourche Mountain Trail is 26 miles in length with loops providing for short or day-long trips. Narrow tread and rocky conditions make riding difficult through the mixed forest with steep areas and high vantage points. Features include an abandoned silver mine, views of the Ouachita Mountains, rock glades and stream crossings at Rock and Turner creeks. Fourche Mountain Trail has one main access point with parking and no camping. There is no fee for use.
To reach the trailhead from Waldron, head south on US70. Turn east on SR270 to the Mill Creek Recreation Area.
Or, the trailhead is located six miles east of Y City on US270. From US270 turn south onto on Forest Service Road 172.
