North of Russellville in the Ozark National Forest, the Moccasin Gap trail system has 28 miles of loops. The rugged route has scenic vistas along bluff lines, waterfalls and dense forests. The trail consists of four major loops with inner loops totaling 28 miles. Trails that are on existing Forest Service roads are currently open to horses, atvs and mountain bikes. Please watch out for other users. Some newly constructed parts of the trail are very steep are unsafe for ATVs. These sections are designated for horses only. Camping is permitted near the trail after you have left the campground. Please locate campsite away from water sources to prevent polluting the streams.
To reach the dirt biking trailhead from Russellville, take SR7 north for 25 miles (2 miles past Macks Pines Restaurant and Cabins). Moccasin Gap is located on the left (west) side of Arkansas 7.
To reach the trailhead from Dover, travel about 8 miles north of Dover on SR7 and turn left on a dirt road marked by a sign. Macks Pines Campground on SR7 is located two miles south of this main trail entrance.
The Stave Mill Falls Loop is blazed in Orange and begins at the horse camp. It meanders along Moccasin Creek past several beautiful waterfalls. This a nice beginner route.
The Black Oak Ridge Loop is blazed in Pink and follows trail along the ridge above Moccasin Hollow.
The High Mountain Loop is blazed in Yellow and is the longest loop. This a rocky trail and can be steep at times.
The Gap Hollow Loop is blazed in Blue and starts at the horse camp. The route combines trails and logging roads. It has high horse traffic.
Overall, Moccasin Gap Horse Trail is the 7th most popular dirt bike trail of all 14 dirt biking rides in Arkansas.
