Breckenridge - Continental Divide Dirt Biking

East of Breckenridge in the White River National Forest, there are several dirt roads along the forks of the Swan River leading up towards the Continental Divide that are open to dirt biking. The most popular dirt bike routes are up the North Fork Road (CR354/FS221) and the Middle Fork Road (FS6).

To reach the offroad motorcycle trailhead for the Breckenridge access to the Continental Divide from US70, use the Dillion/Frisco exit (SR9). Head south on SR9 for 6.3 miles. Turn left heading east on paved Tiger Road (becomes dirt) for 5.4 miles. Just before the small bridge over the North Fork Of The Swan River, turn left onto unsigned dirt road, CR354 (aka FS221). The trailhead parking is about 0.5 miles up the road on the right. There are no trailhead facilities or signs, and only primative camping.

Starting from the trailhead at 10,000 feet, there are several nice rides up each of the forks of the Swan River.

Option 1 is to continue heading up FS221 for 4 miles climbing 2,000 feet through lodgepole pine forest.

Option 2 is to continue south on Tiger Road to Middle Fork Road (FS 6). This is a 9 mile route to the summit of Wise Mountain (12,000 feet). The route passes Tony Mine and the old mining town of Swandyke. From the Wise Mountain summit, there is an alternate route down. It runs north via FS356 and connects up with the North Fork Road (CR354). It is not shown on the map.

Option 3 is continue even further south on Tiger Road to the dirt road up the South Fork heading to the east of Mt Guyot. This is commonly known as Georgia Pass Road, but may also be known as Parkville Road or CR355). The route goes 4.5 miles to Georgia Pass at 11,600 feet. It passes by the old Parkville mining camp. Beyond the pass, the route drops down a gravel road to Michigan Creek Campground.
