Lefthand Canyon OHV Area For Dirt Biking

Northwest of Boulder and northeast of Jamestown, the Left Hand Canyon OHV Area has a great network of roads totaling over 10+ miles open to off-road motorcycle trails riding. The very old logging roads are very challenging trails now. This area has been the site of numerous conflicts with nearby land owners so be sure to stay on public roads and KNOW where you are riding at all times. Otherwise, this area may be closed to riding.

To reach the Lefthand Canyon OHV Area trailhead from Boulder, head north on US36 to Altona. Turn left heading west on Lefthand Canyon Drive for about 3.5 miles. The trailhead and trail system on the righthand (north) side of the road.

The Motorized Trails shown on the map are open to dirt biking, mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding. The 4WD Roads shown on the map are open to ATV riding and dirt biking.

Motorized Trail #838 (Cavanaughs Trail) is a difficult route running north to south (reverse is very difficult). There are lots of roller rocks with steep sidehills.

Motorized Trail #840 (Saddle Trail Loop) is a difficult route and counter clockwise travel is recommended.

Motorized Trail #841 (Saddle Trail West) is a difficult route on a narrow ledge with several rock jumps on side hills.

Motorized Trail #842 (Saddle Trail East) is a difficult route running north to south (reverse is very difficult). The trail has roller rocks and several deep ruts.

Motorized Trail #843 (Wiltzs Trail) is a difficult route running west to east (reverse is very difficult). There are several ledges to climb over.

Motorized Trail #844 (Baumans Ridge Trail) is a difficult route running north to south with very steep roller rocks.

Note: Colorado residents must register their off-highway vehicle with the Colorado State Parks (303) 866-3437. Non-residents are not required to register in Colorado, if they are registered in their home states. All off-highway vehicles must have an approved muffler and spark arrester. These requirements are subject to change so make sure to contact the Colorado State Parks prior to using your off-highway vehicle.

Overall, Lefthand Canyon OHV Area is the 9th most popular dirt bike trail of all 90 dirt biking rides in Colorado. Several of the better dirt bike trails are nearby Lefthand Canyon OHV Area including Caribou Flats Road, Middle Saint Vrain Road and Meeker Park.
