Northwest of Durango, the Little Bear Trail (#609) is a 8 mile route shared by hikers, horseback and off-road motorcycle riders. This route provides access to the more heavily used Bear Creek Trail. It branches off the Bear Creek Trail at mile four and is a 2.6–mile climb to the Little Bear Creek Trailhead access, which is via Hillside Drive (FDR #436). Many portions of the Little Bear Trail may be difficult to find and can be quite steep.
From Dolores on Highway 145, travel east for 22 miles. The trailhead is clearly marked on the highway, and begins about 1/4 mile east (upstream) from the confluence of Bear Creek and the Dolores River.
Note: Colorado residents must register their off-highway vehicle with the Colorado State Parks (303) 866-3437. Non-residents are not required to register in Colorado, if they are registered in their home states. All off-highway vehicles must have an approved muffler and spark arrester. These requirements are subject to change so make sure to contact the Colorado State Parks prior to using your off-highway vehicle.
Overall, Little Bear Trail is the 62nd most popular dirt bike trail of all 93 dirt biking rides in Colorado. Several of the better dirt bike trails are nearby Little Bear Trail including Clear Creek Trail and Hermosa CreekTrail.
