Bear Valley Lakes Trail For Dirt Biking

South of Salmon and southeast of Lemhi in the Salmon-Challis National Forest, the Bear Valley Lakes Trail (#6179) is a 5.4 mile route open to mountain biking, ATV, off-road motorcycle and horseback riding. The trail ranges from 6,800 feet to 9,200 on its way from the NFS Bear Valley Campground up to Bear Valley Lake. There is a 1.2 mile side trail to Upper Bear Valley Lakes.

To reach the trailhead from Lemhi, head north on SR28 for 1 mile. Turn left heading southwest on Hayden Creek Road (FS008) for 8.5 miles. Turn right heading west on Bear Valley Creek Road (FS009) for 4.7 miles to the end of the road at the campground.

Overall, Bear Valley Lakes Trail is the 15th most popular dirt bike trail of all 53 dirt biking rides in Idaho. Several of the better dirt bike trails are nearby Bear Valley Lakes Trail including Upper Harden Creek / Coal Creek Trail, Winnemucca Creek ORV Trail, Big Eightmile Trail, East Fork Hayden Creek Trail, Hayden Creek Trail and Nez Perce National Historic Trail.
