Near Oakland in the Potomac-Garrett State Forest, the 2.7 mile Piney Mountain Trail system consists of multi-use roads linking the main campgrounds that are open to dirt biking.

To reach the dirt biking parking for the Piney Mountain Trail from McHenry, head west on Sang Run Rd. for about 7 miles to Piney Mountain Rd. Turn left, parking is on the left.

Overall, Piney Mountain Trail is the 12th most popular dirt bike trail of all 13 dirt biking rides in Maryland. Several of the better dirt bike trails are nearby Piney Mountain Trail including Backbone Mountain Riding Trail, Potomac River Trail, Garrett Trail Riding System and Wallman Road.
