Southwest of Boston and Foxboro, the 1,000 acre F Gilbert Hills State Forest has 23 miles of multi-use trails looping through the forest open to dirt biking. These trails are maintained through a partnership with the Pilgrim Sands Trail Riders and King Philip Trail Riders.
To reach the F. Gilbert Hills State Forest from Boston, head south on US95 to Exit 7. Follow SR140 north and then 3/4 around common, bear right onto South Street. Turn right onto Mill Street and follow the signs.
Note: the forest trail is open to motorcycle riding. ATV riding is not allowed. Also, off-trail riding is not permitted.
Note: Massachusetts law requires that all ORVs (ATV and dirt bikes) must be registered and display a registration plate on the back of the vehicle. All ORVs must weight less than 1,000 pounds. More information on registration can be obtained from the state Div of Environmental Law at (617) 626-1610. ORV use is permitted only on designated ORV trails within the forest management. Designated ORV trails will be marked with trailhead signage and/or orange or yellow trail blazes. All other state parks, reservations and forests are closed to ORV use at all times.
