October State Forest Dirt Biking

Northeast of Lee in the Bershires, the 16,000 acre October State Forest has 30 miles of trails and logging roads in the Berkshires open to dirt biking. These trails are maintained through a partnership with the Bershire Trails Council.

To reach the Felton Lake trailhead from US90 (Mass Turnpike), use Exit #2. Head west (which may seem north) on SR20 for 1.2 miles passing through Lee. Turn right on Center Street for 0.3 miles. Veer left on Columbia Street for 0.8 miles. Veer left on Greylock Street for 0.1 miles. Turn right briefly and then immediately left on Bradley Street. Head north for 0.7 miles. Turn right on Woodland Road for 0.9 miles. Turn right on dirt Schermerhorn Road (unsigned) next to lake. Follow this road to the Felton Lake trailhead.

Note: There is no motorized trailhead access or parking at the Lenox Station Trailhead or the Willow Hill Road Trailhead.

Note: Massachusetts law requires that all ORVs (ATV and dirt bikes) must be registered and display a registration plate on the back of the vehicle. All ORVs must weight less than 1,000 pounds. More information on registration can be obtained from the state Div of Environmental Law at (617) 626-1610. ORV use is permitted only on designated ORV trails within the forest management. Designated ORV trails will be marked with trailhead signage and/or orange or yellow trail blazes. All other state parks, reservations and forests are closed to ORV use at all times. The state requires that all riders have a helment and you must be at least 14 years old to operate alone.
