West of Medford and northeast Brookings in the Siskiyou National Forest, the 1.7 mile Chetco Gorge Trail is along the upper Chetco River that is open to dirt biking.
The Chetco Gorge Trail (#1112) is on the other side of the Checto Wild and Scenic River across from the old low water bridge site. From this location you must hike up river on the old road until it leads to a river access location. From there you must ford the river, picking the best low water route across, working your way back down river toward the bridge site on the other side. Walk uphill on the road a short way to the trailhead on the right.
The dirt biking on the Chetco Gorge Trail is located 18 miles north of Brookings, Oregon. From Highway 101 take County road 784 (North Bank) to Forest Service road 1376, to spur road 1376-170, to the site of the Low Water Bridge. From the end of spur road 1376-170, follow trail (dirt road) up river to river ford location. Once across the river (west side), return down river to access the trail off Forest Service road 1846 (near old Low Water Bridge).
Overall, Chetco Gorge Trail is the 30th most popular dirt bike trail of all 48 dirt biking rides in Oregon.
