Southeast of Salt Lake City in Big Cottonwood Canyon, the Mineral Fork ATV Trail is a 5 mile (one-way) route running south up to the Wasatch Mine. It is a very steep, loose climb up 3,460 feet of vertical on the shoulder of Superior Peak.

To reach the dirt biking trailhead from Salt Lake City, use the US215 outer belt highway and head to the southeast side. Head east on SR190 (Wasatch Blvd). Turn left on SR190 continuing east into the Big Cottonwood Canyon. Follow SR190 east for 5.8 miles to the small turnout parking area. Note, there is limited parking along side of the road for trailers. Also, the trailhead is pretty much unsigned near the road. After parking, ride past the gate down to the proper trailhead sign.

Note: Like most National Forests, the trails and road are closed to atv riding unless specifically signed open. Do not count on seeing a closure sign but expect to see an open sign. It is your responsibility to know which trails are open to your type of vehicle. Lately, it has been reported that the rangers in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest have been strictly enforcing closures and issuing Federal citations which require a court apperance and $150 fine.

Note: As of September 2007, ATV riding on Forest Service Roads is limited to designated roads. To obtain the latest map of designated roads, make sure to contact the Forest Service HQ at (801) 466-6411.

Overall, Mineral Fork ATV Trail is the 7th most popular dirt bike trail of all 68 dirt biking rides in Utah. Several of the better dirt bike trails are nearby Mineral Fork ATV Trail including Soapstone Basin Road, Strawberry Ridge / Currant Creek, Millville Canyon Trail, Murdock Basin ORV Trail System and Slader Ridge Trail.
