Northeast of Sante Fe and Taos, the Red River area has numerous trails and roads open to dirt bike riding. The trailhead is located just north of the town of Red River up FS54.

4th of July Canyon (Forest Road 490)- approximately 4 miles from Red River on HWY 578 in upper Red River Canyon. VERY RUGGED.

Overall, 4th Of July Canyon is the 9th most popular dirt bike trail of all 14 dirt biking rides in New Mexico. Several of the better dirt bike trails are nearby 4th Of July Canyon including Elephant Rock, Cerro Negro, Garrapate Ridge, Goose Lake, Largo Lake and Middle Fork.
