Middle Fork For Dirt Biking

The 13th most popular offroad motorcycle trail in New Mexico.

Northeast of Sante Fe and Taos, the Red River area has numerous trails and roads open to dirt bike riding. The trailhead is located just north of the town of Red River up FS54.

Middle Fork / Lake - located at end of pavement in Red River Canyon. Turn right onto Forest Road 58 for 1 mile to 487, about 2 miles to the lake. For expert 4WD'ers only! Need short wheelbase, as switchbacks are extremely tight.

Note: As of July 2007, this trail is still closed for improvements.

Overall, Middle Fork is the 13th most popular dirt bike trail of all 15 dirt biking rides in New Mexico. Several of the better dirt bike trails are nearby Middle Fork including Elephant Rock, 4th Of July Canyon, Cerro Negro, Garrapate Ridge, Goose Lake and Largo Lake.
