It is located 15 miles northwest of El Centro via CR S-8, Huff and Wheeler roads.
DIRECTIONS: Interstate 8 East to Dunaway Road. Turn left at the stop sign, passing over I-8. At the end of Dunaway Rd. is Evan Hewes Hwy (Old 80). Turn right on Evan Hewes. Follow Evan Hewes to Huff Rd., turn left. (There will be houses on the right - south side of Evan Hewes - where you will be turning.) Follow Huff up to the Superstitions. Wheeler Rd. is a dirt road just before you go past the Superstitions to the playground. Turn left on Wheeler. Veer to the left. Follow the road around and when you come to the fork, veer to the right....follow down to the playground/competition area. From the North end of Imperial Valley: Take Hwy 86/78 to S30 (Forrester Rd), turn right. Proceed to Imler Road, turn right and follow to Wheeler Rd (past the big dip and just past the Superstitions) and make a right. Veer to the left. Follow the road around and when you come to the fork, veer to the right....follow down to the playground/competition area.
Overall, Superstition Mountain Open Area is the 92nd most popular dirt bike trail of all 117 dirt biking rides in California. Several of the better dirt bike trails are nearby Superstition Mountain Open Area including Ocotillo Wells State Recreation Area, Corral Canyon OHV Area, Glamis, Lark Canyon OHV Area and Barona Oaks MX.
