East of Telluride and west of Ouray, the 12 mile dirt biking route to Black Bear Pass along Black Bear Pass Road (CR K69) is one of the most beautiful in Colorado. It is also one of the most dangerous. The view looks down into the Telluride box canyon. The route climbs to over 13,000 feet.
It is generally traversed from Ouray to Telluride
The western trailhead is at Valley View Parking Area which is just east of Idarodos Pandora Mill Building.
The road from the trailhead heading east to the San Miguel County border is open to unlicensed OHVs as long as the driver has a valid drivers license.
Note: Colorado residents must register their off-highway vehicle with the Colorado State Parks (303) 866-3437. Non-residents are not required to register in Colorado, if they are registered in their home states. All off-highway vehicles must have an approved muffler and spark arrester. These requirements are subject to change so make sure to contact the Colorado State Parks prior to using your off-highway vehicle.
Overall, Black Bear Pass is the 60th most popular dirt bike trail of all 93 dirt biking rides in Colorado.
