The Black Rock Desert High Rock Canyon area has over 750 miles of trails and 4-wheel drive roads. There are no designated camping or trailhead areas and motorized vehicles must stay on existing roads and trails. From there, you can follow a trail down to High rock Lake and into High Rock Canyon Wilderness. The road through the wilderness area is a seasonal road so call ahead to verify if its open. You can complete a loop around the edge of the Wilderness area and back to the Hot Springs parking area. This route is over 50 miles long and offers many side trails and alternate routes.
To reach the trailhead from Reno, head north on SR447 into Gerlach where the desert begins. Its about 100 miles from Reno.
