Southwest of Concord and north of Hillsborough, the 1,500 acre Fox State Forest has 25 miles of backcountry trails which offer super mountain vistas. These hiking trails are difficult with roots, rocks and ledges. The 9 mile Ridge Trail is a figure-eight loop that roughly follows the border of this state forest and provided a great grand tour.
West of Concord and northeast of Washington, the 8,200 acre Pillsbury State Park has miles of hiking trails. The Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway is a 51 mile trail blazed in white extending along the eastern edge of the park. It connects the summits of Mount Monadnock and Mount Sunapee.
