Southwest of Wells, the 36,000 acre East Humboldt Wilderness is an alpine splendor with many peaks above 11,000 feet. The East Humboldt Wilderness gets slammed with Pacific storms and is therefore drips with moist creeks, springs and ponds. Most of the hiking trails dead end into box canyons. There are 38 miles of trails and a 23 mile loop is possible.
North of Elko and southeast of Jarbidge, the Gods Pocket Peak Trail is an 11 mile route that runs through the Jarbidge Wildnerness Area up to the East Fork Of Jarbidge River Trail. Since the trailhead can be difficult to find, you may want to actually call the Ranger office to get the best directions from your location.
