Southwest of Wells, the 36,000 acre East Humboldt Wilderness is an alpine splendor with many peaks above 11,000. The East Humboldt Wilderness gets slammed with Pacific storms and positively drips with creeks, springs and ponds. Most trails dead end in box canyons. There are 38 miles of trails and a 23 mile loop is possible.
To reach the hiking trailhead from US 80, use exit 351. Head east on SR231 for 11.5 miles to Angel Lake trailhead.
From scenic Angel Lake, try the 10.6 mile round trip Grey Lake Trail.
Overall, Angel Lake / Grey Lake Trail is the 4th most popular hiking trail of all 20 hikes in Nevada.
